Barrett Hall Art Installation

My Art installation concept for Barrett Hall is a beautiful interactive piece called

"Spun Spectrums."

In this piece students will be able to rotate multiple sections of the rods that hold large Swarovski crystals to create patterns and cast rainbows throughout the lobby.

I designed this installation specifically to fit the height and width for this central back panel. I have chosen this location specifically because it is West facing and the sun shines very strongly through it towards the end of the day.

Think, you've been working hard all day on classes and projects. You feel drained, ready to go home, done for the day. On your way out you walk into a room dazzling with rainbows.

My hope, is that this little magic at the end of the day will inspire students and revive their wonder and creativity.

The main structure for this piece will be in the heavy base where each rod comes out and can be turned. The rods are segmented and multiple parts of it can be rotated leaving the students with so many possible ways that they can arrange the crystals.

The crystals used will be Swarovski Lily Octagon Crystal Prisms. These are specifically cut and faceted crystals to get the maximum rainbow effect.

The installation of this piece will be rather simple, setting up the heavy base and inserting each preassembled rod.

This piece will have a short description nearby encouraging students to interact, asking they use the rods to turn the piece and not touch the crystals to lower the amount of fingerprints. Low maintenance to wipe down with glass cleaner to remove any finger prints and keep this stunning piece looking it's best.
