This past week has been insine. I picked up 10 2x4s for making my project and then very carefully drove them to my bosses house where he so kindly taught me how to use a large amount of power tools and a bunch of things about construction and working with wood. I used a table saw and a chop saw to cut all the pieces of wood so that they would fit together to build the supporting structure of my cabinet.
Then I drove all those cut pieces back to my home and tried to put it together, there were some mistakes that I had not accounted for when thinking about construction, also because the cabinet is so old its kinda wonky so all of the measurements were weird and off. This led to a lot of back and forth driving between Marc's house and our apartment as I needed to keep adjusting pieces. Eventually I got everything to fit nicely together and then used a power drill to put it all together, this drill was an impact power drill so it really drives screws in, but it is really loud. I have been respecting quiet hours but I am sure my neighbors are a bit annoyed.
After meeting with my advisor last week as well as talking to my thesis instructor it was clear that the giant piece of glass was not ideal. I started looking at an acrylic sheet my Advisor had linked me to Lowes and after looking around I agreed that using some sort of acrylic would be a lot better. I got in touch with Rick from Menards glass again and he also agreed but had concerns about how much it was going to scratch and if the paint would still come off of the piece. So I am picking up a sample from him today to put it to the test.
