Personal Project Update 1

This week I did 5 quick thumbnail-stick figure-type sketches to layout the basic scenes I will have for each sketch. They are super rough but hopefully will help me to remember to have a more dynamic layout. The second and last ones are a little more linear, but I am okay with that and it ties the first one into the series better. Trees will be in each shot either in the background or foreground.

Continued to work on the main sketches.

I did not get as far as I would have like. I found myself with very little time this week after work and sadly even less motivation. I am behind my ideal schedule. I am still trying to aim for having all sketches done by next week.

For my research I spent some time looking for other series of paintings that told a story.

It lead me into what "Narrative Art" is. I looked at the history of narrative art and classic examples. These however where more stories that were depicted in a single painting, not a series.

Through continued searching I found a great resource that I probably will use towards my research paper.

* The Migration Series - Jacob Lawrence, 1941

This website was great because I could see each piece in the series with the story behind them, the history of the artworks in general, PLUS his painting process of how he created the series.

Last week I was unable to find an artist who went through a similar process of how I am working, so I am happy to find that the way this series was created is very similar.
