They're Hungry Audio Concept

This is an Audio Concept following the theme of "intimacy and its spectators".

This project will be recorded using the Binaural audio 3Dio microphone. We are using this to get the most accurate and therefore immersive sound we can for the listener. It will be set up in a large concrete floor warehouse for recording, and use voice actors as well as special effects.

For this audio experience the user will be placed in a hard metal chair, blindfolded, and their hands tied behind their back. Headphones will then be put on them and their experience will begin.

The concept is that you have been kidnapped, you are not sure why or by whom but you are not alone, a friend is with you. You are both tied to chairs that are sitting back to back.

It will start with them hearing a whisper from behind them asking questions. They will be spaced out between pauses, panicked breathing, and the shifting struggling noises.

"Hey, are you awake?" "Where are we.." "Who is doing this" "Why"

"I cant get loose." "Do you hear that?" "someone is coming"

You will hear walking echoing down through a distant hall maybe? Getting closer, than a heavy door sliding open, echoing, the room is big and empty. Overhead lights flicker on with a heavy echoing switch sound.

"Awake I see." a sultry woman's voice will echo and you hear her get closer as her high heels click towards you.

This mysterious woman will walk around taunting the listener and their friend. Explaining they will never get out, its the end of the line. She mockingly tries to comfort them. Telling them not to feel too bad, its not their fault, just the hand they've been dealt. She will monologue about the things you do for the ones you love. A mother who would do anything for their child. "They are like children to me.... " After rambling on she will reassure It will be over quickly, they dont usually play with their food.

Your friend will call her an insane bitch and demand that she lets you go. She will be caught, your disappearance wont go unnoticed. This just seems to amuse the woman who bursts into laughter. It echos all around you. After a while she continues taunting waling around, getting close, whispering in your ear. Your friend sets her off eventually. She will state that her babies only likes live food.. so she wont kill them..but she will hurt him for the insults.

Then she says she'll let them see since they are so curious and takes off their blindfold. They can see for themselves. Your friend calls her ugly. You hear them be hurt.Stabbed.They say in the leg cursing and freaking out but then a high pitch distant screech echos through the room followed by several others.

"They must smell you now...they sound hungry, they always are after their nap... Well Ill leave you kids to it then... remember it wont last long... probably. So sorry for you poor souls... but a mother will do anything for her children. " You hear her walk away quickly. Climbing metal stairs. "Ill be watching from up here. I promise your death will not be in vain... you're helping them grow... such a noble cause."

High pitched unnatural screech noises will be heard as well as the sound of scuttering claws and things running from behind you. You hear your friend freak out more about what is coming. They says they are monsters... aliens.. there's so many... some are huge... so many teeth he will shout panicked . Sounds get louder and closer the beginning of a scream then muffled thuds with a high pitch ring that fades to silence.

When trying out listening to the binary audio microphone I felt so uncomfortable when it sounded like someone was whispering in my ear. Even though I knew they were not near me, my body still flinched and leaned away trying to regain my personal space. I wanted to go off that uncomfortableness for this project.

Horror is a very popular genre, but always very visual. I'm hoping that by experiencing this piece the user will be so immersed just by audio alone that they feel panicked, helpless, and fear. These are very powerful emotions so I believe to get a person to experience them just based on audio and their imagination alone is an amazing thing to accomplish.
