I have been working on improving my skills more, getting faster, drawing more free and bold. These past 2 weeks I did several of my practice warm ups which includes drawing a page of circles, ellipses, straight lines, and a point to point line exercise. This is to help me create better base shapes when drawing.

I did a wing study, originally I was going to be one of the VLD exercises like the boots from the previous post but I got too caught up in it and spent a much longer time on just one study. I chose to do a wing because I wanted to be able to draw the feathers on my owl character better.

I also spent more time working on my owl girl character. She is pretty much finished besides a few more changes/ details I would like to make and add as well as put a little more work into the background. Here is some WIP shots starting with what I had for my last post.

Something that I have learned with through some of the reading I have been doing is to really step away from pieces so that you are less attached to them and obsess over them less. I started really spending a lot of time working on her body feathers. (Probably too much ) so I decided to let it rest for a little bit and work on something else before I came back to finish it.

I wanted to try an idea I had from a while back, again more in this more stylized look. I again got really caught up in doing the head piece specifically on this but I am really happy with how it looks so far.

I also completed another VLD exercise of a leather bag. Originally it was recommended that these take about and hour to complete all together but that was just assuming that they should be line drawings. I think it is much more valuable for me to actually paint them out, so understandably so they take a longer. Still I have gotten much faster they took a little over an hour and a half, spending roughly 30 min on each.
