HCI Arduino Uno Build - Piezo Buzzer & Motor
This week we had to put together two new builds.
The first used the Piezo buzzer.

Not much to look at on the board, but if programmed right it can sound amazing.
I thought this would be really fun and tried putting in a part of my favorite songs, Ghost Love Score by Nightwish into the program based off of sheet music I read I entered in 45 different notes and their timings , sadly however it was playing way too fast even though I entered the length of the notes right and the correct tempo.... maybe it's something with the decimals set up in the program? It said 1 = a quarter note, 2 = a half note, and for 4 it also said it = a quarter note (I assume they meant whole note though? After spending too much time trying to get it to work I decided it was time to move on to other work. Here is the video with a default song playing instead.

The next setup used the motor. Pretty self explanatory. Here is a picture and video of it working below. My videos accidently recorded in the wrong direction and are unfortunately upside down.
Weekly Inspiration
My share of the week and it is very different from the kind of art I usually share but it is art nonetheless. Because of the work I was doing for my Human & Computers Interactions class this week I found this really neat Youtube channel called Flanon_FT Tech Labs. So here is Megalovania from Undertale being played by a huge Arduino Uno Setup.
And I know sometimes it's hard to appreciate musical things when you don't know the song, so for all you non gamers who may be checking in on this blog I will also share this other video that they have where is performs Counting Stars by OneRepublic. (If you don't know this one you are just too old / out of touch with pop culture #sorrynotsorry.
I thought these were really cool and it is neat that I know/understand how it and all the parts are working and now have the skills to replicate something way less grand but still functional here at home. I had an idea going into this class what sorta thing I wanted to do for my final... however I may reconsider and pursue something more musical.
Thesis Project
This week I worked mostly on the writing/ paper side of my thesis project. I worked on another defense for the research point that covered light pollution. I think this addition is nice because not only does it bring my own personal experiences into the paper, making it more personal and hopefully relatable but also give a nice intro to what exactly light pollution is. It talks about things that , unlike the turtles, everyone pretty much experiences. The loss of our stars.
I also started going through and adding lots of details to my turtles to cover up the line drawing and make them more realistic. I plan to have them all done by next week! Here is a WIP shot showing before and after on one of the turtles.
